The 2005 Recall marked the third year for the Mountaineer 5K Run/Walk which takes place on the Schreiner campus. Campus recreation director and this year’s sponsor of the 5K, Micah Wrase, saw a large jump in enrollment.

“Last year we had about 80 participants in the 5K and this year we had over 165 people compete. The runners were actually younger as well, with about 75 percent being 29 and younger while last year’s group was mostly 30 and older,” added Wrase.

“The 5K is a great event and I think it hits home in a lot of areas for many people. Obviously health and wellness is one of our big focuses. It also promotes the school in a positive way bringing lots of people onto the campus, and it’s just a lot of fun for the whole community,” said Wrase of this year’s event.

Throughout the year the campus recreation department at Schreiner sponsors many events ranging from kayaking, rock climbing, tubing, fly fishing classes, swing dancing and a four-day trip to Big Bend National Park. Most of these are free of charge to all Schreiner students, faculty, staff and alumni.
