It is the University policy that illegal drug
and alcohol use, including the manufacture,
sale, distribution, dispensation, possession, or
use of illegal drugs and/or alcohol is
prohibited. Consumption of alcohol may be
permitted at certain pre-approved University
events subject to the University Alcoholic
Beverage Use on Campus policy and compliance
with state and local laws.
The illegal use of
drugs and alcohol is inconsistent with the
behavior expected of members of the University
community. The University is committed to the
development and maintenance of an environment
free of alcohol and drug abuse and in compliance
with the Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988 and the
Drug Free Schools and Communities Act of 1989.
These laws and their accompanying regulations
provide a proper framework for the anti-drug and
anti-alcohol policies of the University.
Please review the University Drug and Alcohol
Abuse Prevention policy which includes a
description of drug and alcohol-abuse education
programs. Include in the policy are the very
serious consequences for illegal drug and
alcohol use, including the Penalties under
Federal Law and Texas Law. Review the
information on the Effects of Drugs Use and the
Health Risks of Alcohol and Drugs. An
institution of higher learning must comply with
the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act (DFSCA)
and Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention
Regulations. Review the biennial Alcohol and
Other Drug (AOD) Report of the substance abuse
prevention education efforts of the university.
