Schreiner Success StoriesKatherine H., senior, communication studies
Katherine was named Schreiner University’s Student Leader of the Month for July 2014, and she couldn’t be happier with the award or her decision to attend SU.
“I originally chose to attend Schreiner because my older sister went here,” Katherine said. “She loved it so much, and I was jealous of all the fun she was having so I decided to check it out for myself. It’s definitely been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”
Katherine is a Mountaineer Mentor, freshman Orientation Leader and Schreiner Ambassador. She also is editor for the Schreiner Sports Network (“The Roar”), and is involved in the ACE learning program as an alumni, as well as Shine Bible Study.
Throughout her years and experiences at Schreiner, Katherine has overcome a lot of obstacles, but she feels being at SU has opened her eyes to the positive side of life.
“There were times when I questioned if I went to the right school because Schreiner has fewer options than a D1 university,” she said. “But staying here I have realized how many opportunities there are when you take the chance to get to know people on a much more personal level. Because of the smaller atmosphere, I created great relationships with my professors and all staff. Socially, I have grown like I never could have imagined. With all the opportunities at Schreiner I have really ventured out and met so many new people that I never would have in high school. Everyone is extremely kind-hearted here.”
